Startup Rock Climbing has reached the left coast.
Last month, we launched the Los Angeles chapter of Startup Rock Climbing.
Considering I’ve been to LA exactly twice in my life, how did this happen?
Nathan Bashaw, product manager @ GA, spoke during the March SRC event. He walked through the products he’s built before and during GA, including Dash and Product Hunt. Great content AND he promoted the event to his Twitter followers beforehand. Two of those followers, Nate Siswanto and Noah Tutak, asked if they could organize one too.
Nice forcing mechanism.
Our team thought seriously about what expansion would mean. It required hard work to make our model scalable, but it also means spreading rock climbing, entrepreneurial learning, and no-BS relationships across the country (nay – the world).
We developed onboarding documentation, simplified our ticketing and organizational structure, and really thought about our values. We’re branding our Meetup page and developing and creating a real web presence. Even though few people are competing for our search terms, our SEO SUCKS. Without doing these things, expansion would be a nightmare.
Oh and we created our official logo.

My plans for SRC included eventually adding regional chapters, starting with Boston and DC. We looked into it last fall actually. But LA fell into our lap. And here we are.
Nate and Noah share the same values as our team. They know the LA rock climbing scene and startup scene. Plus, they hustle like hell. Two weeks after our go-ahead call, they had their first meetup.
So please join me in congratulating the Los Angeles team on their launch. We’re expecting great things from you…
